Where the juice under the film comes from
Chilled meat, poultry and fish gradually release moisture — especially after cutting, with temperature changes and during vacuum packing, when the film presses on the product. The juice collects around the product: a puddle in the tray, cloudy streaks in a vacuum pack. The shopper sees this before the product itself.
When you need an absorbent pad
- The product releases a lot of juice: steaks, poultry fillets, chilled fish, bone-in meat.
- Long display: the product stays on the shelf for several days, and how it looks on the last day matters.
- Clear packaging: vacuum or skin, where every drop is visible.
- Complaints and returns because of an “unattractive” pack, even though the product is fresh.
If the product releases almost no moisture — slices or smoked fish, for example — a regular Zolotoy List laminated board is enough.
How it works
Under the laminated surface the pad has an absorbent layer. Juice and fat go into it and stay inside, while the surface under the product stays dry. On the outside the pad looks like a regular board and comes in any colour.
How to choose the absorbency
The absorbency of the layer is chosen from 800 to 6,000 ml/m². The juicier the product and the heavier the portion, the higher the absorbency needed:
| Product | Juice | What we choose |
|---|---|---|
| Delicate fish fillets, small portions | A little | A layer with lower absorbency |
| Steaks, poultry fillets | Noticeable | Medium absorbency |
| Large cuts, bone-in meat | A lot | A layer with high absorbency |
You do not have to choose “with a margin”: the layer is matched to the real product, and the easiest way is a trial with samples.
What else to consider
- Colour. An absorbent pad comes in any colour — your brand colour or a contrasting background for the product.
- Pack type. Suitable for vacuum bags and SKINFRESH™ skin packaging.
- Antibacterial formula — on request, if you need to keep the shelf look longer.
Leave a request — we will choose the absorbency for your product and send samples for a trial.
